It is our pleasure to introduce the 24th Cincinnati Hispanic Festival an event that is organized to share with Cincinnati our cultural diversity, traditions and unite the two communities.

The Hispanic Culture Society of Cincinnati, a 501c3, organizes the annual event in partnership with the community and local businesses. Our festival is managed and staffed exclusively by volunteers who are committed to our mission of providing assistance to the local Hispanic community through educational programs (Scholarships) and resources to the needy. These programs are funded through the proceeds of the festival, and through your generous sponsorship. They open the door to current generations to an honorable future in this country.

This year we are expecting a record in attendees (15,000 two days), we are innovating the event introducing new activities such as the raffle of a car in the event, the closing ceremony will be accompanied with fireworks and presentation of new musical variety.

    Festival Queen

    Mission

    Empower and inspire young Latinas to maximize their potential in their personal, spiritual and community levels, while supporting the mission of the Cincinnati Hispanic Fest.

    Candidates Information

    Eligibility

    This pageant is only available to girls who
    (i) are between 14 and 18 years old;
    (ii) attend the Saint Charles Borromeo Church;
    (iii) are fluent in Spanish;
    (iv) sign the registration form.

    Volunteers

    The Cincinnati Hispanic Festival has been successful for twenty years thanks to the volunteers from our rich and vibrant community. Just last year, our two day event drew a crowd of over 30,000 diverse attendees. Volunteer hours are scheduled in three shifts each day

    This year, we once again need your help. If you would like to join us in making this event's success possible for 2017, we need volunteers in the following areas:

    • Food preparation starts before the festival and continues during the festival in the kitchen at Su Casa.

    • As food is prepared it needs to be delivered. A food booth can hold only a limited amout of supplies, which need to be replenished thoughout the festival.

    History

    The 24st Cincinnati Hispanic Fest is coming soon - September 9 & 10.This is the parish festival of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Carthage. It is managed and staffed exclusively by volunteers and its proceeds are used solely for the benefit of the Catholic Hispanic community in Cincinnati. Last year 20,000 visitors enjoyed food, entertainment, Hispanic culture and much more.

    The first festival was celebrated back in 1994 at St. Aloysius Church in Elmwood Place. At that time the Catholic Hispanic community in Cincinnati celebrated mass there at 2:00 on Sunday afternoons. On Sunday September 11, that first festival was held in the small parking lot between the church and the former school building. It began after the mass that day and lasted just a couple of hours, featuring a couple a groups making food and entertainment provided by community members.

    The festival remained small and low key until 1997, when the community moved to their new home at St. Charles Borromeo Church. There the festival was able to expand in a much larger parking lot space. A raised stage was added, with a dancing area in front. The variety food choices diversified, with community members from different countries featuring their native specialties. The popularity of the festival grew and began to receive some notoriety outside of the church community. It received the Cincinnati Enquirer's "Good Taste" Award in 2000. In 2002 the festival began crowning a Festival Queen.

    Each year the crowds continued to grow. The festival expanded to the parking space at Su Casa across the street from the church, but even that was not enough to prevent the event from becoming overcrowded. The surrounding neighborhood was being disrupted. Parking became such a major headache that a shuttle service from parking spaces of nearby businesses was set up. By 2004 it was clear that a bigger space was needed.

    The solution to this problem was two blocks to the north. In 2005 the Hispanic festival moved to the Hamilton County Fair Grounds. It was the ideal place for the festival to spread its wings. The venue provided a larger performance stage and more space for an audience. It allowed for an even larger variety of foods and arts and crafts. There was space for community groups and local businesses to have a presence in order to connect with the hispanic community. The festival added rides and other attractions for children and other new attractions for adults.

    In 2013 the long-established Copa Su Casa soccer tournament joined the party. The semi-final and final games took place at the festival and the awards were presented on stage.
